"We think that it is incumbent upon Activision, with the most popular multiplayer game, to take the first step to address monetization of multiplayer. It is too early to tell whether that will be a monthly subscription, tournament entry fees, microtransaction fees, or a combination of all three, but we expect to see the company take some action by year-end, when Call of Duty Black Ops launches", says Pachter.

"The company has the greatest experience of the Western publishers with multiplayer subscriptions, given its huge success with World of Warcraft, and we expect Activision to apply a WoW-type model to its Call of Duty franchise. It is likely that Activision will ease the pain of consumers, and will continue to offer some form of free multiplayer, at least for a while, but we believe it is imperative that the company begin to capture some value from the huge number of hours spent [online]"

Seems like Call of duty may be a LOTTTTT more expensive than medal of honor !! but will it be worth it ?

And how exactly it is gonna work along dedi servers ?

I can say right now that I will not be getting the game , unless they give it away almost free....

I dont feel like paying 60 $ or more for a 4-5 hour singel player campaign plus extra every month for a multiplayer part of the same game....

We will see what Cheap/selfish/money-hungry/avaricious ACTIVISION-Trechard will do .

So this would mean paying for the game, the server, and then an other time to get onto it. I doubt it will happen, and if it does they will loose all the fans of cod, they wont make something expensive knowing that something smilar and cheaper exists.
But anyway I suppose we can just hope ...

lol mcjpro, i think loads of us think alike

Kamikaze, in a way i can see it happening, but then the game will loose its status, i think the casual gamers may go along with it and let ACTIVISION rip em off and take all their money. But we hardcore gamres know better, there are alternatives that are not gonna have a monthly fee.

Maxi , i hope you are right, cause i will NOT be paying for a game , to have to pay YET again to be able to play it !!
I mean its friking ridiculous  .  As you say, first we pay for the game, not enough with that we pay for the servers, and then we pay to play on OUR friking servers !!!

i mean WTF !!!! Activision get your fucking act together !!!

But unfortunately this news is all over the world....... just copy part of the text and put it in google and you will see how many identical searches you come up with, loads of internet gaming websites have posted this ...... Sad

i really won't be surprised. Blizzard always try to do this. They will host their own dedicated servers (not like MW2 where servers are hosted by players i believe), and players will be charged a monthly fee for their account to remain active online. There will probably be a clause in the user agreement that prevents people from legally hosting their own servers.

If it happens like that, you can bet there will be Private (Illegal) servers. It is done all the time on MMO games like Aion/WoW. It won't be hard to do with a FPS game. There is bound to be a pissed off gamer somewhere who knows how to crack CoD :D

Anyway, it would be nice if it went back to Dedicated servers like on CoD4... but i won't be getting my hopes up.

what the hell has the call of duty series come to? why cant it be like cod4 with dedi servers? Activision is seriously fucking up if they are making people pay monthly. even if you do tho i will probably still get it though because i need a new game, but i predict most of the clan wont and we will be going to MoH if the monthly subscription is true.

If you shoot me make sure im dead because you wont get another chance

GREAT HYPE  they got so far ...... aand all of this aint making it worst Very Happy

While the thought , im sure has been brought up by their managers , will not be happening now, but maybe next year, selling the game as 2 different games, the singel player and the multiplayer. i know i would get the multi and download the singel Very Happy

But hopefully nonthing of all this will ever happen.

While the complain about microsoft taking money from live because ppl play online, why dont they make their own console then ? and try to sell it . That PS3 players can still play without having to pay-to-play it is amazing !! and im glad for it !! just cant understand ppl making a big deal about it when they willingly pay to microsoft every month, i guess most complaints must have come from PC, PS3 and Wii players. Anyway, good news is good news to all of us Smile
